Club contest in Mallorca Wordsmiths March 2014

This month we held the Speech/Evaluation Contests in Mallorca Wordsmiths at the Horizonte Hotel.  The 5th March was the Spanish speaking contest and the 12th March the English speaking contest.   Both contests were very successful and many members participated.   This is the part that makes the club really rich.

In Toastmasters we see competition as a good thing.  In competition, under pressure we are able to make the best of ourselves, to improve ourselves and get better and better.   As the competitors pass through the different stages, from the Area to Division to District they have the opportunity to see great speakers and learn from them.  Therefore, I encourage you to attend the next contest in Barcelona on 12th April and the Division on the 26th April also in Barcelona.

Many members and guests attended the meetings to support the contestants and enjoy the evening.  First place was Norma Soler with her winning speech ‘Message in a bottle’.  Second place was Marian Bujan and third Pedro del Amo.  Norma was a double star because she also won first place in the Evaluation Contest with Olga Milian placed second.  It is important to participate and I want to congratulate all those members who took part.   The evening was made possible because of the great organization by Joan Carbonell who was the Contest Master and also the Contest Chair for this event.

It does not stop…..on the 12th the English contest  was organised by Norma Soler as Contest Master and Contest Chair plus her great team.

We had a double star this night also.   This time it was Sebastian Lora who came first in the speech contest with his speech  ‘ Like a dog on a leash’.  Second place was Diane Oatley ‘Say it with flowers’ and third place German de Frederick with his speech titled ‘Cleaning your car’.   In the evaluation contest Sergio Ortiz was the demo speaker with his speech titled ‘Chinese medicine in 5 minutes’.  Sebastian Lora won first place, Joan Carbonall was second and third was Angeline Van de Heijden.

Contests are interesting, exciting and brings passion to the club.  There is six months to go before the next contest.  September/October we will hold the next competition, this time it will be Humorous Speech/Table Topics which is improvisation.

For sure there will be much enthusiasm, motivation and participation.  I encourage you to participate in both contests by taking one of the many roles.
